Our fee for a complete overhaul on a mechanical sewing machine is $79.95. For computerized machines and sergers our fee is $89.95. All machines overhauled leave our shops with a 6 month guarantee. Our service is a COMPLETE overhaul, not just a clean and oil. Many shops will offer a 'tune-up' for a low price. The tune-up is a clean and oil, if they reset the top tension there is an additional fee, lower tension-additional fees. There are 4 different timings on a sewing machine each setting costing you more for an adjustment. You will find that when you get a 'tune-up' that starts out at about $50.00 ends up costing you well over $100.00 by the time you get your machine back. Since your machine was only 'tuned-up' it will come back to you with very little or NO guarantee. Some shops charge over a hundred dollars for an overhaul, this is because the work is farmed out and they tack on their service or handling fee. It is too bad that a certification program is not necessary to become a sewing machine technician. Over the years we have seen some terrible damage to machines caused by unskilled repair people, like holes drilled in them or some machines even wrote off!
